Printing to PDF

Print to PDF allows the user to select one or more documents and write these documents to PDF files.

Printing multiple documents

In order to print multiple documents, a user should first navigate to the area they want to print content from before clicking on the Print Mode On button.. Navigation is done through the left hand navigation frame. When the user has pinpointed the contents area they would like to print, click the Print Mode On button. This function will turn print mode on – thus changing the view in the left hand navigation frame. A print mode menu appears in the left hand frame and checkboxes appear beside the titles of each document. The left hand navigation menu is now fixed so further navigation is not possible. Navigation mode can be turned back on at any stage by clicking the Print Mode Off button.

In order to print, check the appropriate boxes beside the document titles you would like to print. At any point you can clear the selections made by clicking on the Clear Selection button in the Print Mode menu at the top of the left hand frame. When you have checked the appropriate boxes, click the Print to PDF button. Your selected documents are now been written to a PDF file.

If Print Mode was turned on to print results from a basic search, the search graphics highlighting search terms and next and previous hits will now be written to the PDF. To avoid confusion, just click on the Clear Search button on the button bar.

This may take a short while; in the meantime a pop-up window will appear explaining the process. This window will then render the PDF in Adobe Acrobat reader. When the document is rendered as a PDF, you have the options of:

Print Numerous Documents
In order to reduce printing times, a threshold has been set on the size of each print job. If in the unlikely event you choose too much to print, the pop-up window that renders the PDF document will instead return back an error message explaining so. If this is the case, reduce your checked selections. If you are printing at a very high level within a book (i.e. without drilling down through the table of contents), click the Print Mode Off button, renavigate deeper into the book using the left hand navigation menu and then click the Print Mode On button. Then check the contents you would like to print.

Non-display of the PDF in Acrobat Reader within the browser window If your browser window has attempted to display the PDF file but has a returned back a blank window, try reloading the page by clicking on the Refresh link in the browser window menu. This error only happens very infrequently in versions of Internet Explorer
