Introduction to CCH's online products

To publish its online subscription products, CCH uses a content delivery platform called DynaWeb. DynaWeb is software that allows users to read and search CCH's publications over an internet connection using a standard internet browser. It includes a powerful search engine that facilitates the precise identification of information.

To use DynaWeb effectively you should understand the different ways it displays information and the ways you can find information.

How information is displayed in CCH's online products

The default DynaWeb view provides a table of contents frame on the left of the screen and a contents frame on the right. Depending on where you are in the hierarchy of information provided through DynaWeb, you will see one of two views, namely:

Collection view

The collection view provides a gateway to access and search CCH's wide range of online products. In this view, the left-hand frame has a blue background.

The collection view displays all of CCH's collections (i.e. its online products) in the left-hand frame. Each product/collection has a "stack of books" icon next to it.

In the right-hand frame you will see the individual books that make up the active collection/product. Each book is denoted by a "single book" icon. If you click on a the link for a particular collection/product, the contents of the right-hand frame will change to display the books in that collection.

For the majority of products, you will see the collection view when you first open a product from your list of subscriptions (the exception is when a product consists of a single book).

You can return to the collection view from the book view at any time by clicking on the Home button on the button bar.

Book view

The book view displays content from a specific CCH book. In the book view, the left-hand frame has a yellow background.

A single book may contain all of the content of a CCH product, although more often a product will consist of several related books e.g. commentary, legislation and cases.

In the left-hand frame you will see the Table of Contents (TOC) of the active book. If you click on a TOC heading, the corresponding information will be displayed in the left-hand frame. If you click on the + and - icons you can expand and collapse the hierarchy of the book.

You can return to the collection view from the book view at any time by clicking on the Home button on the button bar.

Finding information

CCH's products have been set up to enable you to find information either through navigation and browsing, or, through searching.

You can browse CCH's electronic books in a similar manner to exploring a print book by using the Table of Contents and Index. For more information on browsing/navigating, see Browsing using the Table of Contents and Index

DynaWeb's search engine allowing you to perform searches in a single book or across a number of books at the one time. Searches can be simple or advanced, broad or targeted, according to your needs. For more information on searching, see Introduction to research options and the related topics.
