Book list: All of the books that comprise an online
collection. The book list is displayed in the right-hand frame when an online
collection is chosen from the left-hand frame (collection window). You can
return to the book list at any time by clicking the Home
button on the button bar.
Book window : The right-hand frame (window) that displays the full contents (text) of a book.
Boolean connectors: The connectors AND, OR,
and, AND NOT
. These are used to build advanced search queries.
Browsing: Looking through a book or online collection by clicking on icons and links
Button bar: The collection of buttons used to search and navigate online subscriptions. In the frames view (recommended), the button bar appears at the bottom of the screen.
Clear Search: Click on the Clear
Search
icon on the button bar to clear search results displayed in a book.
Collection: A series of books, see book list.
Collection list: The full list of online collections that are
available. If you are in the frames view, you can return to the Collection list
at any time by clicking the Home
button on the button bar.
Collection window: The left-hand frame. It displays either the collection list , the Table of Contents of a specific book or search results.
Content view: The right-hand frame. Also known as the book window
History: A hypertext link in some legislation books for past information.
Hypertext Link: A click-able piece of text, usually indicated by blue underlined text. When clicked it moves you directly to a related piece of information.
Index: Most books have an Index at the bottom of the Table of Contents.
Keywords: When searching, reduce query to main words, then use connectors.
Navigate: Using the icons and scroll bars available to move efficiently around the books.
Reserved Characters, reserved workds: Words and characters with special meaning to the search engine (and, or, of, ( ), >, <, etc). For more details, see Reserved words .
Search Forms: A tool for searching for information. Search forms are useful for locating specific information, eg a section of an Act, a particular ruling, paragraph number. Each book has its own unique set of pop-up search forms.
Search panel: The text box (panel) located on the button bar. Enter search queries into this box to search online collections and books.
Table of Contents: A list of major headings for a book displayed in the left-hand frame.
TOC: An abbreviation of Table of Contents.
