General search using the search panel
The search panel in the search menu bar is a quick method for searching for
content in CCH's online products. The scope of the search can be changed to
widen or narrow the amount of information that is examined. The search scope
can be set to include:
-
all the books in a single CCH collection/product
-
all the books in all of CCH's collections/products
-
a single book in a single CCH product/collection
A general search across all the books in a single online
product/collection
-
Select the online product/collection of interest from the left-hand frame in
the collection view. The books comprising
the product/collection will be displayed in the right-hand frame.
-
Key in your search term or phrase in the search panel at the top of the screen
and click on the search button.
-
You will now be presented with your search results, which consist of two parts.
The total number of hits for the entire collection is displayed in a
highlighted line of text just beneath the product/collection heading in the
right-hand frame. The number of hits in each individual book in the
collection/product is indicated by a red number listed next to each book title.
-
Click on the heading for an individual book to view the search results for that
book. The number of times your selected phrase appears is now displayed for
each heading in the Table of Contents in the left-hand frame.
-
You can navigate through the search hits using the
Next and Prev
icons that appear around each hit in the right-hand frame. You can also use the
Next Hit Doc and
Prev Hit Doc
buttons on the button bar - if there is more than one hit in a section or
chapter you may skip some hits by using these buttons.
A general search across all the books in all online
product/collection
Searching CCH's entire collection of online products is very similar to the
method outlined above for searching all the books in a single online
product/collection.
To expand your search in this way, you simply need to check the "All
Collections" search box to the right of the main search panel.
The total number of search hits will now be reported at the top of the
left-hand frame, while red numbers detailing the number of hits in each
individual product/collection will also be displayed.
A general search across a specific book in a single
online product/collection
-
If you know the specific book you want to search (eg, one that you have been
navigating using the Table of Contents), you can begin your search from
anywhere within this book. This search will include the entire book - not just
the chapter/section you are in when you begin your search.
-
Key in your search term or phrase in the search panel at the top of the screen
and click on the search button.
-
The number of times your selected word/phrase appears is now displayed for each
heading in the Table of Contents in the left-side frame.
-
You can expand the headings in the Table of Contents that display hits to find
out in more detail where they occur.
-
You can navigate through the search hits using the
Next and Prev
icons that appear around each hit in the right-hand frame. You can also use the
Next Hit Doc and
Prev Hit Doc
buttons on the button bar - if there is more than one hit in a section or
chapter you may skip some hits by using these buttons.
