Adjusting your user preferences

General

Dynamic Tool Tips: Enables or disables dynamic tool tips on the Next and Prev buttons in the book window (right-hand frame). When on (the default), the tool tip over these buttons is the actual title text of the next or previous page in the book. When off, the tool tip displays "Next Page" or "Prev Page" only. The setting default is "On".

Show Upper Mini TOC: This setting determines if a mini TOC (Table of Contents) is displayed at the top of a page. "Never" means the mini TOC is not displayed at any time, "Non-Frames Mode" (the default setting) causes the mini TOC to be displayed in non-frames mode only, and "Always" sees the mini TOC displayed for both frames and non-frames views.

Show Lower Mini TOC: This setting is the same as "Show Upper Mini TOC", except that the mini Table of Contents is displayed at the bottom of the page. The default setting is "Non-Frames Mode".

Maximum Page Bytes: Determines how much text is displayed in the right-hand frame (book window). Increasing the value will lengthen the size of the page (and the time taken for it to load). If you enter "unlimited", the entire page is always shown. The default value is 50 000.

Query expansion

Language: Specifies the language used for query expansion. The only option is English for CCH publications.

Thesaurus-Based Query Expansion: Enables (the default) or disables thesaurus-based query expansions. When on, expanded searches return related terms in addition to the specified term.

Stemming: Enables (the default) or disables stemming-based query expansions. When on, expanded searches return inflections of the term in addition to the specified term.

Customized Thesaurus: Enables (the default) or disables the use of a customized thesaurus during query expansion. When on, expanded searches return related terms, as specified in the customized thesaurus, in addition to the specified term.

Compounding/De-compounding: Enables (the default) or disables the use of compounding and de-compounding during query expansion. Compounding is the process of taking compound words and breaking them down into their component parts. When on, expanded searches return component terms in addition to the specified term.

Normalization: Enables (the default) or disables normalization-based query expansions. There are three types of normalization techniques used, namely, clitic stripping, open/closed ligatures and word-internal punctuation. Clitic stripping means removing articles, prepositions and/or pronouns leaving just the base word. Open/closed ligatures refers to using a sequence of characters to represent unique characters or symbols. Word-internal punctuation means hyphens, slashes or parentheses are taken into account.

Maximum Input Terms To Match: Allows you to specify the maximum number of terms to match for the entire query. The default value is 100.

Maximum Expansions Per Term: Allows you to specify the maximum number of related terms to return for any one term. The default value is 50.

Minimum Strength of Association: Allows you to specify as a percentage the minimum "strength of association" for which to expand terms. 0 means return all terms, 100 means only return the input term. The default value is 50.
